6.a. Ultimate Understanding of Senior Secondary Education

In this series of articles, we can understand Classes 11 and 12 in great detail. This series comprises of three articles. As in the previous articles, the emphasis is on bringing comprehensive details about this section so that the readers do not have to surf different internet sites for getting information in piece-meal.

Senior Secondary Classes form the senior-most section of the school education. Thus, it is a bridge between the school and graduation level courses.   As evident, a bridge has to be strong enough for a person to cross over to the other side, easily. Needless to add, that this bridge forms an important pathway for the journey towards higher education and achieving career goals.
Ralph Ellison had said, “Education is all a matter of building bridges.” It sounds so true about this segment of education.
Comparison with the previous classes
The student reaches this level after passing one board examination at the secondary level. Thus, he or she has crossed one milestone during this educational journey.  He or she has worked hard to get the rewarding experience of preparing for the board examination and has, invariably, chosen his or her direction in life.
Now, as compared to the secondary stage, things become tougher not only because of the richer subject content but also because this stage also requires him or her to prepare for the competitive examinations simultaneously. The student is required to score good marks in the Senior Secondary Board examinations also as these marks also have their weightage not only for admissions in Graduation or professional courses. It is very important for them to have developed a passion for their career line that they have chosen, by now.
Importance of Class 11
Class 11 is the foundation stage for preparations that lead to the Senior Secondary board examinations. It is very important to work hard for further developing the conceptual understanding of various subjects that one has learned till class 10 and also prepare in light of the board examinations ensuing a year later.

Case study
As in my previous articles about different classes, we take up the case of Kriti, for better understanding. She passed Class 10 board examinations with 75% marks and was not satisfied with her performance. She studies in Commerce Stream and plans to become a Cost Accountant in life. She knows that it is very tough and needs extremely good performance in classes 11 and 12.  Her parents, Mr. S. K. Singh and Mrs. Nupur Singh are in Government service and love her very much. They are extremely supportive of her to meet her goals. Her mother is very friendly to her and Kriti always gets a piece of wise advice from her.

Kriti is a very positive girl but she got disappointed with her marks obtained in class 10. Seeing her daughter in a despondent mood, Nupur took it upon herself to help her. She sat down with her to discuss and analyze the problems.  Fortunately, she had a commerce background and, therefore, was in a position to advise her.

11 Golden tips to achieve sure success
She gave her Eleven valuable and practical tips to succeed in life.
Set clear Goals
Henry David Thoreau had said, “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”
She told Kriti, “Don’t feel that Cost Accountancy is a lofty dream. Just plan and work for it from right now. ”
Break your Long term target into short-term plans
You may lose sight of your long-term goals in your day-to-day activities. However, if you break it down into short-term plans, it becomes feasible. It is easier to plan a weekly or a daily time-table as compared to a monthly or annual plan.
Develop Self-confidence
Being shaky makes you lose the battle even before you have begun to fight.
Get best out of your class
School is the place for maximum learning. You only need to take the following steps:
Be all ears: Be mentally present in the class too. There is no point in only being only physically present in the class.
Ask QuestionsIf you don’t understand anything, don’t ignore or procrastinate. Ask it then and there to understand. Even a small point if misunderstood or is unclear may lead to further confusion.
Make Notes: Making notes in the class is a very good habit. It engages all the five senses along with the mind. It helps in better retention of the lesson.
What does your syllabus tell you?
Your syllabus can help you prepare a plan that will extend until your examinations. A date-wise schedule on MS Excel Worksheet may be made.
Example:
Subjects
Chapters
Target date
Date finished

This is only an example. The actual plan will be much bigger than this.
Make plans for the self-study
After the school task is over, it is no time to throw your bag aside and start wasting time. Remember, you are studying in the senior-most class of your school and this requires a good amount of self-study in order to achieve big success. However, nothing is possible without proper planning. These plans are not made for your notebook only. It is to be placed properly before you and followed earnestly.
Importance of each subject
Remember that the marks of all your subjects are going to contribute to your score-sheet. Therefore, ignoring any one of these or improper allocation of your precious time will only snatch success away from you.
Health is wealth
Strong physical and mental health is your biggest assets. Remember, any debility on this account will neither let you concentrate on your studies. Therefore, eat balanced food, exercise regularly, and be positive under all circumstances.
Respect time
The money lost may be recovered but not the time. It is your most valuable possession. Make the best use of it.
Don’t get satisfied
Never get satisfied with your preparations and the time spent on your studies otherwise, your efforts may slacken, unknowingly.
Social Networking Sites and Television
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp and Television programs may allure you immensely but make a firm determination not to be drawn towards them. Don’t lose sight of your goal in life and win over these small attractions.
We will explore different examining bodies in the following articles.
